HOLDEN MANZ MERLOT RED VEGAN WINE 2012
This was an outstanding vintage for premium red wines. A long slow ripening period was prevalent, characterized by an initial dryness, yet moderate temperatures. This culminated in the typical January heat wave.
Intense ruby red center with a bright brick red edge
Plums and ripe blackberry flavours dominate a rich full nose with nuances of gentle wood maturation.
Sweet ripe fruits, blackberries and red berries on entry support the overall palate of fruit and balanced acidity. All this combines into depth on the mouth and an appreciation of this super smooth elegant wine. The fruit tannins are ripe, rich and full offering a satisfying width to the mid-palate. The wine ends with a long finish of sweet fruit.

Matured for 22 months in 20% new French oak 225L barrels. The grapes were selected from vines growing on different soil types. Grapes were picked at optimal ripeness to enable the correct balance between sugar and phenolic character from the western part of the farm. The individual varieties were bunch and berry sorted, crushed and destalked to tank. Fermentation was initiated after 3 days cold soaking. After careful blending trials and numerous test tastings the final blend combined a variety of batches each contributing toward creating a balanced, expressive and fruit driven wine.
This wine will mature well and improve with bottle ageing over the next couple of years. Perfect for a wide variety of foods – poultry, red meats, pork, salads, steaks and medium strength cheeses.
