2015 LEIPZIG LIDA CHENIN BLANC WHITE VEGAN WINE
Lida, the matriarch of the Leipzig Winery, is the woman this wine is named after and dedicated to.
The name, Leipzig, is from the German “city of music”, where the forefathers of this estate stem from. The section of land that is now known as Leipzig was originally bought by Mrs Alida Smit, who was born on the neighbouring farm. The youngest daughter of Alida and Francois Smit, Alida Bester runs the farm today. Alida Bester, along with her husband, Vian, maintain a truly lovely wine venue. Vian, who explained the history of the farm and their wines while we tasted them was an absolute pleasure to meet.
South Africa is the largest producer of Chenin blanc. In some cases, Chenin blanc is blended with Semillon, Viognier, and Marsanne in order to make a richer wine that resembles an oaked Chardonnay. Chenin blanc and Sauvignon blanc are also blended to create a refreshing and zesty dry wine in South Africa.
VINIFICATION
Grapes harvested on Phisantekraal, Tygerberg. To ensure the concentrated flavours, this Chenin blanc was produced from grapes carefully sourced from 38-year old bush vines with a low yield. Before undergoing further bottle aging, this wine is fermented and aged for approximately 6 months in small oak barrels.

Intense citrus flavours with a silky mouth feel
Enjoy at your leisure any time or put a few bottles of this rare wine away for a few years.
This wine pairs well with foods that have a sweet and sour element because of Chenin blanc’s awesome acidity and inherently sweet flavour. Chenin blanc in a richer and sweeter style will blow your mind when paired with Southeast Asian cuisine or pork chops with apples.
Meat pairing: Veal, Trout, Chicken, Turkey, Pork Chop, Guinea Foul, Halibut, Smoked Salmon, Terrine, Pâté
Cheese pairing: Chenin blanc pairs really well with soft to semi-firm cow’s milk cheeses, such as triple-cream brie, gruyere, cream cheese, yoghurt and cheddar. Herb-crusted goat cheeses also pairs well with Chenin blanc.
Vegetable & fruit pairing: Squash, Jicama, Guava, Shallot, Chives, Savoy Cabbage, Yam, Carrot, Cauliflower, Oyster Mushroom, Corn, Red Bell Pepper, Apple, Quince, Pear.
