2014 LE ROUX EN FOURIE PINOTAGE RED WINE
The vineyard is situated at the foot of the majestic Langeberg Mountains resides Le Roux & Fourie Vignerons on Buitenstekloof farm.
South Africa’s own hearty red was created in 1925 and is a cross between Cinsaut and Pinot Noir. Oddly enough, Pinotage is bolder than both its progenitors.
Barrel aging takes place for 12 months in a selection of French oak barrels. Fermentation takes place for 14 days at 23⁰C. Yeast used – Zymaflore. Malolactic fermentation takes place 100% in barrel.
Residual Sugar: 3.4 g/l; pH: 3.68; Alcohol: 12.5%; Total Acid: 5.6 g/l; Free SO2: 23 mg/l
This Pinotage red wine infuses a combination of complex fruity aromas, with sweet spicy and peppery undertones, plumy sweetness with a fresh finish in the mid pallet.
This wine pairs perfectly with curried Cape Malay dishes, bobotie, Sushi, venison and game loins done on the braai/BBQ with wild mushrooms. Roasted meats and vegetables topped with flavourful sauces such as teriyaki and plum sauce. This is how Pinotage was meant to be, purely South African at its best.
