2014 LEIPZIG PINOTAGE RED VEGAN WINE
The name, Leipzig, is from the German “city of music”, where the forefathers of this estate stem from. The section of land that is now known as Leipzig was originally bought by Mrs Alida Smit, who was born on the neighbouring farm. The youngest daughter of Alida and Francois Smit, Alida Bester runs the farm today. Alida Bester, along with her husband, Vian, maintain a truly lovely wine venue. We had the pleasure of meeting Vian, who explained the history of the farm and their wines while we tasted them.
VINIFICATION
This signature Pinotage red vegan wine pays tribute to the past and is a true homage to the fruits of quality vines. This proudly South African cultivar is sourced from Stellenbosch, where its roots and origins may be found. The wine reached its full potential after careful barrel aging in French Oak and its development continued with bottle resting for 20 months prior to release. With flavours of berry and smoke coupled with a hint of banana, this wine is a true gift of history, inspiration and homage to fruits of excellent vines.
